Interesting Conference Next April

Tip of the hat to Dave Black for this one: Next April, there is a two-day conference being held at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary on the topic of whether or not the last twelve verses of Mark (Mark 16:9-20) are original to the text, or a later addition. It’s quite affordable ($25 which includes a breakfast on the second day), a chance to meet some great scholars (at that breakfast), and for those of us who find these types of topics of interest, a good chance to hear both sides (I presume) of this textual issue. Even though it states that it is open to “pastors, Bible scholars, and students from local colleges and universities”, I have a personal email from Dave Black assuring me that it is open to anyone who is interested. I’m hoping to attend, and thought that maybe some of my readers (especially Tony Sisk and Alan Knox, who I believe are both former students of Dr. Black’s) might be going as well, and we could use that as an opportunity to meet in person! Let me know if you think you’ll be going.

    Steve,

I had considered as well that this would be an interesting conference and had thought about going. SEBTS is my alma mater, and I studied under Drs. Black and Robinson. If I’m not mistaken, I think I remember reading that you had studied at DTS, am I correct? Did you study under either Drs. Wallace or Bock? If so, that really ought to make it an interesting conference!

I have put it on my calendar, but hesitate to commit as of yet. You never know what a day will bring! If so, I would dearly love the opportunity to meet you and get to know you beyond the screen.

    Sincerely,
    Tony

    Steve,
I am still studying under Dr. Black - this time in the PhD program at SEBTS. And, yes, I plan to attend the conference. I would love to meet you there.

Alan, oh I didn’t realize you were still studying there. I missed that somewhere. Cool!

Tony, just let me know closer to the time if you’re planning/able to go.

For you two guys, and anyone else interested in going and meeting up, I think the conference ends before lunch on Saturday, so maybe we could plan on meeting somewhere together for lunch? We’ve got quite a few months to plan this out, but I’d be open to any suggestions from those of you familiar with the area.

I’m excited about the opportunity to meet you guys!

Tony, with regard to my days at DTS, Dr. Wallace was actually on sabbatical when I was there, and I think Dr. Bock might have been as well. I can’t remember for sure. However, I have exchanged quite a few emails with Dr. Wallace over the years (including just a few months ago), and have been very blessed by his attitude and grace in my life. It would be a blessing to finally meet him in person. As for Dr. Bock, I have had no personal interaction with him, but have respect for his scholarship.

    steve :)
