Finally, Some News on the Job Front

For those of you who have been remembering this in prayer, I wanted to let you know that finally, after a six-month process, I have found out that I did not get the position at Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA that I had hoped for. So, for the present time, we will be remaining here in Boone. The news was a bit hard to receive, but at the same time, I’m just very glad to finally know (six months is a long time to be going through a process like this). Thank you all for your prayers. And a belated Happy New Year to you all! More substantive posts will hopefully follow…

Thinking about Incarnation

I still don’t have time to write any of the substantive posts that are in my mind, but I must link to a post over at Emerging Grace called Embodiment. It deals with some little-heard aspects of incarnational living that I think we all would do well to meditate on and mull over. There is much about Christ in us that we don’t seem to understand, even though the very scriptures that so many hold so dear talk plainly about it! Grace includes some passages of scripture that have been really stirring around in me for about a year or so. So, go read it while you continue to wait for me to get my blogging act together!

Too Much To Write Right Now

We just got back home after our trip to SEBTS for the “Original or Not: The Last 12 Verses of Mark” conference. There is much I would love to write, but it might not get done tonight. In the meantime, head on over to Alan’s blog or Lew’s blog to see their live-blog summaries of the sessions. I didn’t take my laptop, so they definitely beat me to the punch! We had a great time meeting Alan and several others. I will tell you all about it later, but for now, I want to say a brief “thank you” to Alan for coordinating some fellowship times together, and to the rest of the gang we hung out with. Radio Silence

We’re leaving in a few minutes to drive to PA for my oldest niece’s wedding. As far as I know, I will not have access to the Internet until we return Sunday evening, with the possible exception of a short visit online just to check email, etc. So, I will likely be unable to respond to any comments while I’m gone. Have a blessed weekend, everyone, and play nice while I’m gone!

Raborn, Erica, Lisa, David, Freida, Tom, and of course my lovely wife, Christy, I love you all, and am so blessed to fellowship with you. Thank you all (and thank You, Lord!) for an amazing time of sharing Christ with each other.

One More Blog Update, Then a Real Post!

All of a sudden, the posts have all been technical posts about this blog, and very little of actual substance in line with the name “Theological Musings”! So, I’ll just drop this quick update on here as an “aside” and then write the “real” post that’s on my mind.

For the time being, I have switched spam management plugins (thanks to a tip from Subversive Influence) and so I have removed the anti-spam word function that you all loved so much (right, Kansas Bob? hehe). I’m going to see how this goes. Ironically, I was getting spam comments anyway, so I’m not sure how they were getting past the anti-spam word anyway, but maybe my list of composers was too easy to guess! By the way, the new plugin I’ve installed for spam management is Spam Karma 2.2.

Also, for those interested in the WordPress plugins that I’m developing, I realized that my “WP Plugins” page was going to quickly get over-crowded, and so I have started a new site called “Plugins By Steve”. It’s located at, oddly enough, PluginsBySteve.com!

Unity in the Body

Thanks to Alan Knox, I was able to read an incredibly thought-provoking post on unity today. This is something I long to see in Boone, too. Do you long to see this where you are? I hope to blog on it later, but since I only have about 15 minutes before the next music jury I have to accompany, it will have to wait. In the meantime, go check out the post!

Sorry I Am Not Writing Right Now

I want to apologize for the lack of writing, and even of responding to comments right now. I do have several posts bouncing around in this head of mine. However, the next week and a half are going to be incredibly crazy for me schedule-wise. I’m still in the middle of production of the show “Always…Patsy Cline” with the Blowing Rock Stage Company — the show was slated to end this coming Sunday, but has been held over another week. Additionally, I have a total of five recitals I’m accompanying at the University next week (including four next Saturday, before doing a show that night!), and so there are extra rehearsals, etc. I’m not whining, but just wanted to explain my quietness this time around!

Interesting Conference Next April

Tip of the hat to Dave Black for this one: Next April, there is a two-day conference being held at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary on the topic of whether or not the last twelve verses of Mark (Mark 16:9-20) are original to the text, or a later addition. It’s quite affordable ($25 which includes a breakfast on the second day), a chance to meet some great scholars (at that breakfast), and for those of us who find these types of topics of interest, a good chance to hear both sides (I presume) of this textual issue. Even though it states that it is open to “pastors, Bible scholars, and students from local colleges and universities”, I have a personal email from Dave Black assuring me that it is open to anyone who is interested. I’m hoping to attend, and thought that maybe some of my readers (especially Tony Sisk and Alan Knox, who I believe are both former students of Dr. Black’s) might be going as well, and we could use that as an opportunity to meet in person! Let me know if you think you’ll be going.

Interview with Frank Viola

House Church Chronicles has a three-part interview with Frank Viola. (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3) I have read quite a few of Frank’s books, and find his thinking very encouraging. I don’t agree with him on everything, but he has written on some of the same issues that we talk about here with regard to church form and function. I would highly recommend his book entitled “Pagan Christianity” for those who are interested in tracing some of the traditions that exist in our churches.
